Kuwait keeps defenses razor-sharp

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9, (Agencies): Kuwait on Sunday welcomed a statement by members of the United Nations Security Council condemning missile attacks by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia since July 13 and attacks targeting commercial vessels since July 22. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for the Security Council members’ emphasis on adherence to international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, as well as respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

Kuwait also stressed its rejection of actions that threaten regional security and the safety and freedom of maritime navigation. The Foreign Ministry renewed Kuwait’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its sovereignty and security. It also reaffirmed support for Yemen’s legitimate government and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen in efforts to achieve peace, security and stability in the country.

Meanwhile, Bahrain also welcomed the Security Council statement condemning Houthi missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and attacks on commercial vessels. Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability and protect its vital interests.

It stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security and stability are an integral part of the security of Bahrain and all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, citing the countries’ historic ties, shared destiny and the GCC Joint Defense Agreement. Bahrain also commended Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic, developmental and humanitarian efforts in Yemen and its role in supporting a comprehensive and sustainable political solution based on the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216. The Bahraini Foreign Ministry further praised Saudi Arabia’s role in establishing a multinational defensive maritime coalition aimed at strengthening maritime security, protecting freedom of navigation and international trade, and safeguarding global energy supplies. Through its current non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council, Bahrain called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and adopt a firm stance to deter attacks threatening maritime navigation and international trade, in accordance with international law, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and relevant Security Council resolutions
