Kuwait judiciary braces for high-profile week of trials
Kuwaiti Banks, Justice Ministry discuss unified mechanism for implementing court-ordered salary garnishments.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 6: The courts are preparing for an exceptional week that begins Sunday to deliberate on cases that have gripped the Kuwaiti public, as these cases involve former ministers and parliamentarians. This reflects the weight of cases referred to the courts. On Sunday, the Court of Appeals will deliberate on the appeal filed by the Public Prosecution against the acquittal of 18 citizens, including former parliamentarians, activists and social media users, on charges of broadcasting false news and misusing their telephones, following the publication of posts linking former MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri to the biometric fingerprint case. Counselor Salah Al-Houti is expected to preside over the session scheduled for Sunday, followed by another session on Wednesday that will most likely be chaired by Counselor Dr. Omar Al-Masoud to complete deliberations on the appeals filed against the remaining defendants in the same case.

The Court of Cassation will resume hearing on the appeals of former Interior and Defense Minister Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled against the Ministers' Court rulings on Sunday. The Ministers Court had earlier sentenced him to 14 years in prison, ordered him to repay more than KD10 million, and fined him more than KD20 million. In the previous session, the court decided to release him on bail, while banning him from travel. The court will listen to the arguments of the defense in the crucial session scheduled for Sunday.

On Tuesday, all eyes will turn to the Ministers Court, which will hold its fourth session in the trial of former Defense Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad and his office director in the ‘secret expenses’ case, amounting to nearly KD400,000. It can be recalled that after hearing the testimony of four prosecution witnesses, the court decided to adjourn the case until September 9 to summon defense witnesses. Meanwhile, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad presented a check for the sum in question, asserting his innocence. The exceptional judicial week concludes on Wednesday, when the Court of Appeals will deliberate on the appeal of former MP Bader Al- Dahoum against the Criminal Court ruling sentencing him to one year in prison with hard labor and a bail of KD5,000 to suspend the execution of the ruling. He was convicted of insulting the judiciary at a press conference
