KUWAIT CITY, Oct 13: Kuwait’s Court of Appeals has sentenced an Egyptian resident to five years in prison after he was accused of belonging to the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization, receiving training in explosives and sticky bombs, and planning to bomb Shia mosques in Kuwait.

The State Security and Terrorism Crimes Circuit also heard several other security-related cases, issuing rulings ranging from imprisonment to upholding acquittals.

According to the case details, the Egyptian defendant was accused of joining ISIS, undergoing training in the use of explosives and sticky bombs, plotting attacks on Shia mosques and publicly insulting the Emirate.

In a separate case, the court upheld the acquittal of a lawyer identified by the initials S.A., who had faced charges of inciting sectarian strife and insulting the Shia sect in Kuwait.

The court also overturned the acquittal of a Kuwaiti citizen accused of sympathizing with Iranian attacks on Kuwait. It refrained from pronouncing a sentence against him and required him to provide a good-conduct pledge backed by a financial guarantee.

The rulings were issued by the State Security and Terrorism Crimes Circuit of the Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Abdullah Al-Sanea, with Judges Mohammed Jaafar and Hamoud Al-Badr as members.

The cases involved allegations related to terrorism, national security and sectarian incitement, with the court issuing separate decisions based on the circumstances of each case.
