KUWAIT, Jan 19: Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Sheikha Ambassador Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah on Monday stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Kuwait and Italy in the human rights field. She emphasized the importance of supporting international efforts to empower women and promote their meaningful participation in peacebuilding and conflict resolution processes at both regional and international levels. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah said her discussions with several Italian officials reflected the distinguished bilateral relations between Kuwait and Italy and their continued development across various areas.
She noted that the meetings were held in the presence of Kuwait’s Ambassador to Italy Nasser Al-Qahtani and featured ongoing coordination and constructive dialogue between the two friendly countries. She explained that the talks took place on the sidelines of her participation in the high-level dialogue on advancing peace, stability, security and the contribution of women mediators, negotiators and peacebuilders, held in Rome from January 20 to 21. Sheikha Jawaher said she met with Italy’s Deputy Director-General for the United Nations, Human Rights and International Organizations Department, Alessandra Molina, and Coordinator for Women Peace and Security Luca Fratini.
She highlighted the vital role women play in sustaining peace and increasing its chances of success, noting that women are among the groups most affected by conflicts, necessitating their effective inclusion in decision-making processes. She added that the meetings emphasized the coordination between Kuwait and Italy through their membership in the UN Human Rights Council, aiming to support multilateral action and strengthen human rights protection. Italian officials expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s role in advancing human rights and women’s empowerment, praising its contributions to the Women, Peace and Security agenda and affirming continued coordination in relevant international forums. Sheikha Jawaher said the discussions refl ect Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting international cooperation to achieve security, stability and sustainable peace (KUNA)
