Kuwait Issues Alert Over Increased Attempts to Hack Social Media Accounts

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: The National Cyber Security Center has issued a warning about a recent surge in hacking attempts targeting social media accounts, particularly WhatsApp, noting that in some cases, attackers have been able to gain access without any user interaction.

In a statement posted on its official account on the X platform on Friday, the center urged the public to update their smartphone operating systems and social media applications to the latest versions, and to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all platforms.

The center also advised users to report any suspicious calls or messages to the relevant authorities, ignore such communications, and never share verification codes or passwords under any circumstances. It added that it continues to monitor cybersecurity threats and will provide updates to the public as new information emerges.

Established in 2022, the National Cyber Security Center is responsible for safeguarding Kuwait’s cybersecurity framework, including the protection of information networks, communication systems, and the secure exchange of electronic data under the national cybersecurity strategy.
