KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) Sheikh Saoud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah held discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to explore avenues for expanding economic and strategic investment cooperation between the two nations. The talks centered on identifying joint investment opportunities and enhancing bilateral strategic economic ties, according to a press statement by the KIA obtained by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the inaugural Canada Investment Summit 2026, held in Toronto on September 14-15.
At the outset of the meeting, Sheikh Saoud conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah to Prime Minister Carney and the Canadian people. The statement noted that discussions highlighted the longstanding historical relationship between Kuwait and Canada, as well as the KIA’s strategic investment footprint in Canadian markets. On the summit sidelines, the Managing Director also engaged in bilateral talks with senior Canadian officials including Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand and Premier of Ontario Doug Ford-alongside executive leadership from prominent Canadian pension funds and financial institutions.
The meetings focused on exchanging views on developments in the global investment environment, Canada’s economic and investment outlook, areas of mutual interest, and opportunities to strengthen investment cooperation and partnerships. KIA participated in the Summit, which brought together leading global investors, business leaders and government officials, with the aim of strengthening engagement between Canada and major international investment institutions and highlighting long-term investment opportunities in the Canadian market. KIA has maintained an investment presence in Canada for more than 25 years.
