KUWAIT CITY, April 23: The Director General of Civil Aviation, Sheikh Engineer Hamoud Mubarak Hamoud Al-Sabah, announced the reopening of airspace at Kuwait International Airport starting today, Thursday, following a “temporary and precautionary” suspension of air traffic since February 28 due to regional developments.
In a statement, Sheikh Hamoud said the move was carried out in coordination with relevant international authorities to ensure the resumption of operations in line with the highest safety and security standards. He added that the step is part of a carefully planned, phased approach to gradually restore air traffic, paving the way for full airport operations in the near future.
He noted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has completed its assessment of damage to certain airport facilities resulting from the Iranian attack and affiliated armed groups. Technical teams have already begun maintenance and repair work on operational equipment and infrastructure to ensure full readiness.
The initial phase of operations will include selected destinations based on operational priorities that guarantee safety, with continuous evaluation before expanding to broader phases, he said.
