KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: The National Human Rights Bureau has expressed profound regret and dismay over the recent kidnapping and assault of a young Kuwaiti girl by her father, a relative, and another citizen. It stressed the urgent need to implement all necessary legal actions against the perpetrators. In a special statement issued yesterday, the National Human Rights Bureau called on the Supreme Council for Family Affairs to closely monitor the incident and take necessary measures to protect children from violence and exploitation. The Bureau urged the Council to ensure the child receives every kind of protection and all rights under law No. 21/2015.
It affirmed the need for cooperation among government institutions and civil society organizations to protect children from violence, torture, and harm. The Bureau called for raising awareness of children’s rights, preserving their right to life, survival, and development, and providing necessary social and economic assistance, as well as protecting children from sexual assault and exploitation. In light of these concerns, the Bureau recommended that the court take legal action against the aggressors and impose the maximum penalty. It also highlighted the importance of evaluating guardianship cases to ensure that guardians are fit to provide proper care to children, safeguard them, and ensure they grow up in a healthy, safe, and balanced environment.
