KUWAIT CITY, June 19: Kuwait is set to host the premier fencing event in Asia, the Asian Fencing Championship Kuwait 2024 for men and women, under the patronage of Dr. Amthal Hadi Al-Huwaila, Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs. The championship will take place from June 22 to 27 at Hall No. 4 at the international fairgrounds in the Mushrif area.
Hamad Al-Awadhi, Secretary of the Kuwaiti Fencing Association and Director General of the Asian Fencing Championship has invited all forms of media to attend a press conference at 6 pm at the Failaka Hall in the Radisson Blu Hotel. The conference will cover the details, conditions, and instructions of the tournament.
During the press conference, Al-Awadhi will unveil the new logo of the Kuwaiti Fencing Federation. A dinner party will follow, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Federation's founding, with prominent international sports figures in attendance.
Al-Awadhi announced that the tournament will commence next Saturday, featuring 320 athletes from 36 Asian countries. He emphasized that this event is the most significant fencing competition in the Gulf region and the Middle East.
He noted that the organizing committees have worked diligently over the past six months to ensure the championship reflects the development of fencing in Kuwait and showcases its capability to host major international events.
Top fencing champions from South Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan will participate, aiming to earn points to improve their international rankings. This championship also serves as vital preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The national fencing team of Kuwait has prepared a training camp in Italy. Twenty-four Kuwaiti athletes, including Yousef Al-Shamlan, who recently qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, will compete. Al-Awadhi expressed optimism about their chances of reaching the podium.
