KUWAIT CITY, May 27: Kuwait was honored at the Global Youth Summit of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) on Tuesday for its project poster titled "Falcon Passport in Kuwait." The poster, submitted by Shouq Al-Hai from the Environment Public Authority (EPA), was selected as one of the top four entries out of submissions from 38 countries.
The summit, taking place in Singapore from May 27 to 31, featured a special tribute to Kuwait. The project was formally presented to Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, with support from Kuwait’s Ambassador to Singapore, Ahmad Al-Shuraim, according to Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of the EPA’s Public Relations Department.
Al-Ibrahim noted that the recognition highlights Kuwait’s leading international role in protecting natural heritage and combating illegal wildlife trade. It also underscores the country’s commitment to building youth capacity and encouraging active participation in international environmental agreements.
She described the summit as a prestigious platform designed to empower youth by enhancing their skills in negotiation, legislation, and environmental innovation, thereby increasing their involvement in wildlife conservation efforts. Kuwait’s participation in the event strengthens its voice on global environmental issues and aids in preparing a knowledgeable national generation to carry forward the state’s mission in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, in alignment with Kuwait’s commitments under the CITES agreement.
