KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: Kuwait’s Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi said on Saturday that a specialized workshop on intestinal ultrasound technology marks an important advancement in the health sector’s rehabilitation and capacity-building programs.
Speaking in a press statement on the sidelines of the event, Al-Awadhi said the workshop — organized by the Kuwait Gastroenterology Association in cooperation with the International Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) organization — reflects the Ministry’s commitment to training medical, nursing, and technical cadres. He noted that the program aims to qualify 36 physicians from Kuwait, GCC states, and Arab countries in the use of intestinal ultrasound techniques.
Al-Awadhi explained that intestinal ultrasound has traditionally been performed by radiologists, but providing gastroenterologists with this skill “opens new horizons” and enhances diagnostic efficiency, representing a qualitative leap in modern diagnostic mechanisms. He stressed that professional training remains a priority for the Ministry of Health in both current and future stages.
Dr. Heba Al-Farhan, President of the Kuwait Gastroenterology and Hepatology Association, said the workshop brought together a select group of international experts invited specifically to train Kuwaiti physicians. Trainers from Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium, India, and Italy participated, underscoring Kuwait’s status as a regional scientific hub capable of attracting leading global expertise.
Al-Farhan added that the workshop seeks to enhance physicians’ skills in using intestinal ultrasound as a non-invasive, more accurate, and faster diagnostic tool for inflammatory bowel disease. This, she said, helps improve patient care, reduce diagnosis time, and support more effective treatment planning.
She emphasized that Kuwait’s selection to host the program reflects the international scientific community’s confidence in the competence of Kuwaiti medical professionals and the Association’s ability to organize advanced educational events of the highest caliber.
