KUWAIT CITY, June 27: According to a recent survey by Mercer, Kuwait occupied the last place among the GCC countries and 122nd place in the world in terms of living costs for expatriates, while Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh topped the chart among the Arab cities. With this statistics, Kuwait is considered the best place for expatriates to live in the matter of expenses, reports Al- Seyassah daily.

Dubai took 26th place globally and Beirut 65th position, while Kuwait city occupied the fourth place among Arab cities preceded by Cairo, Rabat and Casablanca respectively, while Manama, Amman, Doha, Jeddah and Muscat occupied the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th places in that order. Hong Kong topped the chart globally in terms of the most expensive city for expatriates followed by Tokyo and Zurich.

According to the report, Asian cities dominated the list, while European and African cities occupied the bottom by reason of fluctuating currency value. The declining Angolan currency value caused Luanda to lose its first place to Hong Kong, while the rise in value of the Chinese currency and the flourishing economy pushed several Chinese cities to the top.

Also, the report traced the prices of some 200 commodities, including housing, transportation, food and clothing in 200 different cities on five continents — making New York City the yardstick for classification and taking into account circulation of their local currencies with the US dollar
