DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 21: Kuwait reaffirmed its commitment to global economic dialogue and cooperation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting, officials said Wednesday.
Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajeel said Kuwait’s participation reflects its belief in international dialogue to confront global economic challenges and strengthen its role as a strategic partner. Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of the forum, Al-Ajeel stressed Kuwait’s focus on enhancing its presence at international economic platforms and contributing to discussions on global economic issues.
He noted that Kuwait aims to present its economic priorities, foster public-private sector partnerships, and benefit from international expertise to support economic diversification, digital transformation, and a competitive business environment. Al-Ajeel added that Kuwait’s presence at the forum forms part of a unified Gulf delegation, highlighting the GCC states as among the world’s most stable and influential economic blocs.
“The goal is to shape international economic debates, enhance strategic partnerships, and consolidate the GCC’s role as a key partner in supporting global growth and sustainable development,” he said.
Kuwaiti Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance, and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem, described Kuwait’s political stability as providing a secure and risk-free environment for foreign investors. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Mukhaizeem said, “The current state of ambiguity and uncertainty in the world is far removed from the GCC countries, especially Kuwait.”
He noted that the WEF provides an opportunity to showcase Kuwait’s economic vision and strengthen strategic partnerships that support growth and diversification. Al-Mukhaizeem said he attended the forum alongside Minister Al-Ajeel, following directives from His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, to implement approved plans for economic development.
On the sidelines, Al-Mukhaizeem discussed reforms in housing welfare, private housing development, public debt management, and economic diversification, including efforts to increase non-oil revenues.
The WEF annual meeting, held under the theme “Spirit of Dialogue,” emphasizes direct dialogue, international cooperation, and global economic challenges, including risks of slowing growth and rising inflation. Discussions also cover artificial intelligence, technological transformation, renewable energy, and their links to climate change.
The forum is attended by over 3,000 participants from more than 130 countries, including roughly 400 heads of state and government, decision-makers, major financial institutions, and leading researchers and academics.
