Kuwait heat surge to peak at 50°C as humid haze lingers

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali said the country is experiencing hot winds and relative humidity, causing reduced horizontal visibility in coastal areas due to light fog. However, relative humidity is expected to gradually decrease as winds shift to northwesterly directions. Al-Ali explained to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the country is being affected by an extension of a surface low-pressure system accompanied by an extremely hot and humid air mass, particularly in coastal areas. Southeasterly to variable light and moderate winds are blowing at speeds ranging between 8 and 35 kilometers per hour. Maximum temperatures across the country range between 46 and 48 degrees Celsius, with reduced horizontal visibility in coastal areas due to light fog. The winds will be moderate and may become occasionally active in open areas, reaching speeds of up to 45 kilometers per hour. These conditions are expected to continue in the coming days, with maximum temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius at Kuwait International Airport. Al-Ali expected winds to shift back to southeasterly directions on Sunday afternoon, bringing renewed relative humidity and hot, humid weather, especially in coastal areas. Temperatures on Sunday are expected to range between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius, with southeasterly winds ranging from light to moderate at speeds of 8 to 32 kilometers per hour. (KUNA)
