Kuwait Health Ministry hosts workshop on radiation protection
Ministry of Health organizes workshop on Radiation Protection with participation of selected experts and specialists

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 12: The Ministry of Health, through its Radiation Protection Department, launched a three-day workshop on Wednesday titled "Radiation Protection: A New Vision for a Healthy and Safe Environment," with participation from a select group of experts and specialists in medicine, industry, and scientific research from Kuwait and abroad.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Mundhir Al-Hasawi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to advancing the national radiation protection system. Key initiatives include upgrading reference laboratories for radiation measurements, expanding environmental monitoring networks, enhancing emergency response readiness, and training national personnel in radiation safety.

Dr. Al-Hasawi also underscored the role of digital transformation in strengthening the regulatory and technical capabilities of the Radiation Protection Department, highlighting ongoing collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to implement the RAIS+ data management system.

Dr. Nasser Al-Juwaisseri, Director of the Radiation Protection Department, stressed that protecting the population from radiation hazards is a shared national responsibility, requiring coordination among all relevant sectors to ensure a healthy and safe environment. He affirmed the department’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s vision for radiation protection and the safe, sustainable use of radiation and nuclear technologies to serve health, development, and environmental goals.

The workshop seeks to promote radiation safety concepts, protect human health and the environment, review national experiences in legislation and infrastructure, and discuss the latest practices in environmental monitoring and nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness.
