Kuwait Health Minister opens new surgical wing at Al-Amiri Hospital
The Minister of Health inaugurates the new surgical wing at Al-Amiri Hospital

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi inaugurated on Monday an additional surgical wing at Al-Amiri Hospital, marking a strategic move to enhance patient care, accelerate treatment, and strengthen the readiness of Kuwait’s health system under the Ministry’s ongoing plan to expand healthcare facilities.

Dr. Al-Awadhi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the new wing, inaugurated in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering and Projects Engineer Ibrahim Al-Naham and Al-Amiri Hospital Director Dr. Areej Al-Kandari, includes 30 beds — 10 private rooms and 20 general beds — alongside doctors’ offices, a pharmacy, clinics, medication storage, and warehouses.

“The expansion addresses the need to increase bed capacity and provide a comprehensive treatment environment that meets modern healthcare standards,” Dr. Al-Awadhi said, emphasizing that it will enhance patient safety, improve service quality, and boost the efficiency of medical and nursing staff.

He added that the new wing will help relieve pressure on existing wards and increase the hospital’s capacity to handle surgical cases of varying complexity.

Dr. Al-Awadhi also announced that another surgical wing is scheduled to open next week, as part of a comprehensive plan the Ministry of Health developed over the past two years, encompassing short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to expand healthcare services across Kuwait.
