Kuwait handball team moves to Nagoya for Asian Games

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 16: Kuwait’s senior national handball team has moved from Tokyo to Nagoya to compete in the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026), which run from September 19 to October 4.

The team completed its final preparations at a nine-day camp in Tokyo, playing one friendly against a Japanese club before heading to Nagoya, the main venue for the Games.

Head coach Aron Kristjansson used the camp to finalize his squad ahead of the tournament. Kuwait will open its campaign against Iran next Saturday.

Kuwait Handball Association Treasurer and delegation member Khaled Taleb expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, while praising the Kuwait Olympic Committee for arranging the final training camp in Japan.

“The preparation camp achieved its purpose by helping us get ready for the Asian Games. The team is now fully prepared, and we have no injuries in the squad. We hope that remains the case throughout the tournament,” Taleb said.

“Kuwaiti handball has always shouldered its responsibilities and seeks to compete strongly in tournaments across Asia. The Asian Games are no different, given the high level and intensity of the competition,” he added.

Taleb said Kuwait’s group features several strong teams with different technical levels, playing styles, and tactical approaches. He added that the coaching and administrative staff are fully aware of the challenge facing the team.
