TUNIS, Nov 2: Kuwait’s senior national handball team is intensifying preparations for the Men’s Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, scheduled from November 7 to 21. The team is training in Tunisia with two daily sessions to reach peak physical and technical readiness ahead of the tournament.
During the Tunisia camp, Kuwait participated in a friendly tournament against Tunisia, Iran, and Guinea. Head coach Aron Kristjansson and assistant Heini Geirsson focused on improving player fitness and tactical performance, supported by the team’s new Danish fitness coach.
The coaching staff praised the players’ commitment and discipline, noting that the camp serves as a key step toward the Asian Championship in Kuwait next January, which doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 World Cup in Germany.
The Tunisian camp delegation is led by Handball Federation board member Nasser Al-Da’as, with Treasurer Khaled Taleb, team manager Abdulaziz Al-Zuabi, and 21 players. Kuwait is drawn in Group B alongside Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, while Group A features the UAE, Qatar, Iran, and the Maldives.
In women’s handball, Qurain lost 32-26 to Tunisia’s Hammamet in a preliminary Group A match at the 7th Arab Women’s Clubs Championship, held in Hammamet from November 3–9. Qurain’s Melika Ranik earned the Best Player award.
Qurain faces Tunisian club El Mkanin at 1:00 PM, while Kuwait’s other women’s team, Salwa Al-Sabah, meets Tunisia’s Al-Ittifaq at 5:00 PM in the second round of Group B.
