Kuwait handball team determined to shine at Islamic Solidarity Games

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30 (KUNA): Kuwait Handball Federation board member and head of the national men’s team delegation, Nasser Al-Dadas, affirmed that the team is focused on delivering a strong performance at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, running from November 7 to 21, with aspirations to compete for the title.

Speaking to KUNA, Al-Dadas said the training camp in Tunisia is proceeding smoothly, with players engaged in daily intensive training sessions, morning and evening. He highlighted the team’s commitment to following the guidance of the technical and administrative staff to maximize the benefits of the camp and friendly matches ahead of the tournament.

Al-Dadas also praised the Kuwait Embassy in Tunisia for facilitating all arrangements for the team’s camp and friendly matches in preparation for the Islamic Solidarity Games.

The delegation, led by Al-Dadas, includes Treasurer Khaled Taleb, team manager Abdulaziz Al-Zuabi, and the technical staff headed by Icelandic coach Aron Kristanson with assistant Haini Giversson, alongside 21 players.

Kuwait faces Tunisia tomorrow in the final match of the friendly tournament, after beating Guinea 31-28 and playing Iran yesterday. The team is drawn in Group C of the Asian Handball Championship qualifiers for the 2027 World Championship, alongside the UAE, Hong Kong, and India.

Meanwhile, Salwa Al-Sabah Club and Al-Qurain Club arrived in Tunisia on October 28 to participate in the 7th Arab Women’s Handball Championship for League and Cup Winners, held in Hammamet, Tunisia, from November 3 to 9.

Al-Qurain women are in Group A with MCN, Association Hammamet (Tunisia), and Qasioun (Syria), while Salwa Al-Sabah women are in Group B with Al-Afriqi, Association Sahel (Tunisia), and Nabk (Syria).

The Salwa Al-Sabah delegation includes Bahraini coach Mohamed Mirza, assistant coach Sakina Mahmoud, and supervisor Amina Khalifa, along with 14 players, including four Tunisian professionals: Saida El Sassi, Salma Bousaheeh, Aya Al-Zaidi, and Safaa Dallous.

The Al-Qurain delegation is led by club secretary Khalifa Al-Shahoumi, with team manager Hamed Mazal, administrators Ali Al-Jibaa and Rawia Al-Anzi, coach Saad Salem, and 13 players, including three Egyptians and one Serbian professional.

Both Kuwaiti teams are preparing for strong showings as they aim to represent the country with pride on the Arab handball stage.
