‘Addicts must go for cure, expats will not be deported’

KUWAIT CITY, June 27: In conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2021, which fell on Saturday, a security source at the Criminal Security Sector of the Ministry of Interior said addressing drugs smuggling via land, sea, air into Kuwait is receiving great attention from the Minister of Interior Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant-General Essam Al-Naham and Undersecretary of the Criminal Security Sector Major-General Muhammad Al-Sharhan because this devastating scourge is a top priority for the criminal security sector, reports Al-Anba daily.

The security source told the daily drug dealers target Kuwait in particular and the Gulf states by using the latest methods of camouflage, pointing out that the securitymen are up to the task and are provided with the latest global training methods and technology to improve their ability to foil these attempts. The source pointed out there is coordination at a high level, both at the level of the Arab Gulf states and the Arab countries, to follow up and monitor the various smuggling operations and exchange information in this regard, stressing the need for parents to take what is necessary to protect their children and society as a whole by communicating with the Ministry of Interior and filing an addiction complaint.

The sources pointed out expatriates who report the drug addiction habits of their children are not deported, but treatment is provided to them, and the same applies to citizens. In all cases, young people reported for their addiction are not referred to the judiciary, but the drugs are confiscated and they are given an opportunity to return to society as normal people. The sources stressed that the efforts of the General Department for Drugs Control (GDDC) do not stop at confronting the drugs smuggled into the country, but also intensify their efforts to pursue those who promote them inside the country. The sources added, “There is a decrease in the number of deaths due to drug abuse, and this is due to the efforts being exerted in this regard,” pointing out that the volume of seizures of narcotics and psychotropic substances is very large, and this indicates huge money is involved in drug trafficking.
