Kuwait gears up for World Cup qualifiers against Qatar

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: Kuwait’s head coach, Rui Pinto, has called up a squad of 24 players in preparation for the upcoming matches against the Qatar national team on March 21 and 26, marking the initial group fixtures in the joint Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup.

Among the selected players is Youssef Nasser from Kuwait club, a striker who has recently showcased outstanding performance, earning him a return to the squad. The roster comprises Ibrahim Kamil, Sami Al-Sanea, Muhammad Dahham, Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, Reda Hani, Mishari Ghannam, Mohsen Falah, Faisal Zayed, Saud Al-Hawshan, Youssef Nasser, Mubarak Al-Fanini, Hassan Hamdan, Suleiman Abdul Ghafour, Muhammad Al-Huwaidi, Mahdi Dashti, Athbi Shehab, Hamad Harbi, Abdullah Al-Fahd, Salman Burmah, Abdul Rahman Al-Majdali, Khaled Ibrahim, Eid Al-Rashidi, Youssef Al-Haqqan, and Bandar.

Team director Abdul Rahman Al-Mousa revealed that the delegation will embark on a training camp in Abu Dhabi, the Emirates, starting tomorrow, Thursday, and lasting until March 19. Following the camp, the team will head to Doha, Qatar, in preparation for their encounter with the Qatari team on March 21 as part of the initial group qualifiers. The team is set to return from Doha on March 22, organizing an internal camp ahead of the March 26 clash against Qatar.

In Group A Qatar leads with six points, followed by Kuwait in second place with three points. The Indian national team holds third place, with three points, while the Afghanistan national team remains at the bottom without any points.

Additionally, the Kuwait Olympic team, led by Portuguese coach Emilio Peixe, unveiled a list of 23 players participating in a training camp in Abu Dhabi from the 15th to the 26th of this month. The Olympic team is scheduled to face their Bahraini counterparts during the camp. The squad includes Talal Al-Qaisi, Fahd Al-Fadhli, Saleh Al-Mahtab, Montaser Suleiman, Salem Al-Khatlan, Jarrah Al-Hilaili, Muhammad Al-Rashed, Sultan Al-Faraj, Abdullah Al-Anazi, Khaled Al-Fadhli, Abdul-Rahman Al-Daihani, Yousef Al-Majed, Hussein Ashkanani, Abdul-Rahman Al-Sharhan, Hussein Shehab Kankuni, and Abdul Al-Rahman Al-Fadhli, Moaz Al-Anzi, Abdul Aziz Asaad, Talal Al-Hajraf, Abdul Rahman Al-Rashidi, Muhammad Al-Azmi, Abdul Rahman Al-Anzi, and Hamad Al-Taweel.
