Kuwait Food Inspectors Uncover Spoiled Food, Thawed Meat Sold as Fresh

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Kuwait’s General Authority for Food and Nutrition has shut down a food facility in the Capital Governorate after inspectors uncovered several serious violations, including the sale of spoiled and non-compliant food products.

The inspection campaign, carried out by the Authority’s Capital Governorate Inspection Department in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior’s Capital Governorate Security Directorate, also found frozen meat being thawed and sold as fresh.

Inspectors additionally recorded violations involving general hygiene, licensing requirements and workers’ health certificates.

The campaign resulted in 10 violation reports, the immediate closure of the facility and the destruction of 134.116 kilograms of non-compliant food products.

The Authority said the action forms part of its ongoing inspection campaigns aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring the safety and quality of food products available in Kuwait’s markets.
