In the first media briefing by the Government Communication Center regarding the recent developments, Al-Atwan confirmed that the Armed Forces successfully intercepted the missiles and drones within the area of ongoing operations. Al-Atwan stated that Kuwait has been subjected to a series of attacks in a blatant violation of its sovereignty and international conventions and laws. He said the attacks included the use of ballistic missiles and drones, affecting some civilian facilities, infrastructure, vital installations and residential areas. He indicated that this resulted in the martyrdom of two members of the Armed Forces and a child, as well as several injuries and material losses.
He revealed that since noon on Feb 28, the Kuwaiti Army units and formations have commenced their missions to defend the airspace and territory of the country. He said the armed forces and air defense systems have been monitoring and tracking hostile targets and engaging them according to established operational procedures.
He clarified that the sounds of explosions are the result of the interception of hostile missiles and drones. He commended the vital role played by Kuwaiti men and women in the military and security services, as well as in various State institutions, who have been performing their duties responsibly and faithfully since the beginning of this brutal aggression, reflecting the unity of national efforts to maintain national security and stability.
He confirmed that the Armed Forces engaged an additional wave of missiles and drones, detecting 62 ballistic missiles – 54 of which were intercepted, while eight posed no threat as they were outside the threat zone, and 72 out of 132 drones were engaged. He affirmed that during these operations, while performing their national duty, two members of the Armed Forces were martyred while carrying out their defensive missions to protect the homeland.
“On the third day, from noon on Monday until noon on Tuesday, the monitoring and interception operations continued within the air defense system to protect the airspace of the country. During this period, 37 ballistic missiles were detected, 23 of which were intercepted, while 14 ballistic missiles posed no threat as they were outside the threat zone, and 42 out of 100 drones were engaged. Some interceptions resulted in debris falling in residential areas, causing material damage and civilian casualties, including the death of a child and injuries to four other people.
On the fourth day, from noon on Tuesday until noon on Wednesday, the armed forces continued to engage additional waves of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones detected in Kuwaiti airspace. During this phase, 27 ballistic missiles were detected, all of which were successfully intercepted, while 33 out of 109 drones were engaged within the air defense system to protect the country’s airspace,” he narrated. Regarding injuries among members of the Armed Forces, Al-Atwan stated that 67 injuries have been recorded among Kuwaiti Army personnel since the start of operations.
“The injured received the necessary medical care, and all are in stable condition, with two cases currently under medical observation,” he said. He affirmed that the Kuwait Armed Forces is at the highest level of readiness, operating round the clock with close and continuous monitoring of all field developments. “This is being done in full coordination with military and security agencies and various State institutions within a comprehensive national framework aimed at maintaining the security of the country and the safety of citizens and expatriates,” he concluded.
