KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi launched the winter vaccination campaign for the current season, in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr. Al-Mundhir Al-Hasawi, at the Mubarak Al-Hasawi Specialized Health Center in Hitteen. The campaign is part of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to strengthen prevention against seasonal respiratory illnesses and reduce their complications, especially among those most vulnerable to health risks.
The ministry explained that the campaign includes vaccination against seasonal influenza, in addition to recommended vaccines for preventing pneumonia. The vaccines are available to citizens and residents at 90 health centers and hospitals in various health zones. It emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated during the seasonal period, particularly for the elderly, children, those with chronic diseases, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, and healthcare workers. The ministry called on citizens and residents to take advantage of the campaign by following medical guidelines and recommendations.
Dr. Hamad Bastaki, Head of the Infectious Disease Control Department, affirmed that vaccinations represent the first line of defense against winter respiratory illnesses, given their ability to reduce the risk of infection, lessen the severity of illness and its complications, and decrease the number of cases requiring hospitalization. He highlighted the Ministry of Health’s commitment to providing vaccinations at the largest possible number of health centers and hospitals, making them more accessible to citizens and residents.
