Kuwait face Egypt in inaugural match of Arab School Sports Championship

Officials hold a meeting on the eve of the tournament.

CAIRO, Nov 18: Kuwait football team is set to embark on its first match in the Arab School Sports Championship against the Egyptian team at the Police Union Stadium in Abbasiya at 9:30 pm.

The draw placed our team in the first group, which also features the Saudi team. The second group includes Morocco, Oman, and Lebanon, and the third group consists of Algeria, Iraq, Palestine, and Libya.

Responding to a proposal by Dr. Ahmed Al-Hamdan, Secretary-General of the School Union, the Football Technical Committee, led by Dr. Jamal Ali, approved a modification to the match duration. The proposal extended the playing time from 50 to 80 minutes, divided into two halves.

The tournament format dictates that the top-ranked team and the best second team, excluding the fourth-placed team in the third group, will qualify for the semi-finals. The second-ranked team that doesn’t reach the semi-finals will engage in a match to determine fifth and sixth places, while the remaining teams will compete in the consolation round.

Expressing gratitude, Walid Ayesh, Vice President of the Kuwait School Sports Federation and Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Arab Union, acknowledged the organized session by the organizing committee and praised the efficient organization of the draw led by Dr. Jamal Ali.

He also appreciated Kuwait’s proposal to modify the match duration, which aligns with international federation regulations.

Dr. Al-Hamdan emphasized the collaboration of the technical committee with Kuwait’s proposal to adjust the match duration and the adoption of observations put forth by other committee members.
