KUWAIT CITY, May 9: The Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday organized a virtual meeting with a delegation from the Georgian food sector and Georgian Ambassador to the State of Kuwait Noshrevan Lomtatidze. At the beginning of the meeting, the chamber welcomed the Georgian delegation, affirming the shared interest in strengthening trade relations between Kuwait and Georgia, particularly in the food security sector.

The chamber pointed out the importance of the meeting due to growing global focus on food security issues, supply chain resilience, and diversification of import sources. It disclosed that trade between the State of Kuwait and Georgia increased remarkably over the past decade, thus, presenting valuable opportunities for expanding cooperation. It added that Georgia is a promising partner due to its growing capabilities in agricultural production, livestock, meat processing, dairy products and fresh produce, which cover the increasing needs of the Kuwaiti market. They discussed several issues of mutual interest like the trade in live animals, ‘halal’ meat, dairy products and fresh agricultural produce.

Participants stressed the need to abide by quality standards and certifications, as well as ensure the continuity of the supply chain, competitive pricing and timely delivery. The KCCI confirmed its readiness to support companies in both countries by facilitating direct communication, strengthening partnerships between the business sectors, and transforming the outcomes of the virtual meeting into long-term trade cooperation agreements. On the other hand, Ambassador Lomtatidze expressed his happiness over the meeting, and commended the efforts of the State of Kuwait in general and the KCCI in particular. He called for more communication and information exchange and reaffirmed the readiness of the Georgian Embassy to provide support.

The meeting included a presentation of Georgian exports by the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, highlighting the status of Georgia as a reliable source of food products, such as fruits, nuts, beverages and more, while pointing out the strategic geographic location of Georgia – in the midst of important countries and vast markets. Several Georgian companies in various sectors like livestock, animal feed, chilled lamb, processed fruits and vegetables, organic fruits and vegetables, apples, and blueberries conducted presentations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the chamber voiced optimism over the outputs of the meeting, indicating that this is a progressive step towards stronger and more sustainable economic relations between Kuwait and Georgia, serving the interests of the two countries. Both sides expressed their gratitude to all those who attended the virtual meeting.
