KUWAIT CITY, Apr 9: Kuwait has extended the suspension of all sports activities and events until further notice due to ongoing exceptional circumstances, authorities announced on Thursday.
Tariq Al-Jalahma said the decision was based on recommendations from a joint committee tasked with assessing the impact of current conditions on the country’s sports sector.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency, the minister said the committee concluded that sports events should remain on hold until a full evaluation is completed and conditions are deemed safe for a gradual and organized return.
He added that discussions during the meeting covered a range of organizational, technical, and health considerations related to hosting sporting events at present.
Authorities will continue to monitor developments closely, with the joint committee set to hold weekly meetings to review the situation and determine appropriate timing for resuming activities.
Al-Jalahma urged sports clubs, federations, and organizations to comply with the decision, emphasizing that the safety of athletes and the public remains the top priority.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including representatives from the Public Authority for Sports, the Kuwait Olympic Committee, and the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Health, as well as the General Directorate of Civil Defense, highlighting a coordinated government approach to managing the situation.
