Kuwait Electricity, Water Systems Stable Despite Regional Tensions
Fatima Hayat

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 14: Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (Kuwait) confirmed on Saturday that the country’s electricity and water systems are operating efficiently and services for citizens and residents continue normally despite regional tensions.

Speaking during a media briefing, ministry spokesperson Fatima Hayat said the ministry activated its comprehensive emergency plan on February 28 in response to developments linked to the Iranian aggression against Kuwait. She noted that emergency teams were deployed to pre-designated locations and readiness levels were raised across production, transmission and distribution sectors, with round-the-clock monitoring to respond to any potential disruptions.

Hayat revealed that falling shrapnel from defensive operations caused damage to 15 overhead power transmission lines across the country, as well as a limited fire in two fuel tanks at Doha West Power and Water Distillation Station and Al-Sabiyah Power and Water Distillation Station. Technical teams have already repaired 11 of the affected lines and restored them to service, while work continues on the remaining lines.

She added that safety teams quickly contained the fires without any injuries, limiting the damage to minor material losses, and confirmed that the tank at the Doha West station has already been restarted. The ministry also suspended some routine maintenance at distillation units to maintain full production capacity and boost the strategic stock of fresh water.

Authorities have also prepared shelters and accommodation centers at several ministry facilities in line with Kuwait General Directorate of Civil Defense requirements, while security support from the Ministry of Interior (Kuwait) and the Kuwait National Guard has been requested to secure vital water facilities.

Hayat urged the public to rationalize electricity and water consumption to reduce pressure on infrastructure and help ensure the sustainability of services across the country.
