KUWAIT CITY, May 25: Customs officials at the Al-Salmi border crossing have foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of subsidized food supplies out of the country and handed the seized items over to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for further action.

The General Administration of Customs said the prohibited shipment was intercepted during routine inspection and monitoring operations carried out as part of ongoing efforts to protect local markets and strengthen food security.

According to officials, customs officers detected and seized the contraband through standard inspection procedures and initiated the necessary legal measures. The confiscated items were inventoried and classified in official reports in preparation for further action under applicable laws and regulations.

Authorities confirmed that, after completing all legal procedures, the seized food products were transferred to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ensure the protection of strategic food reserves, maintain market stability, and safeguard food security in the country.

The Customs Administration emphasized that it will continue efforts to combat the smuggling of subsidized goods and materials banned from export, while maintaining coordination with relevant government agencies to protect the national economy and public interest.
