KUWAIT CITY, July 24: Kuwait customs authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle cigarettes through the Nuwaiseeb border crossing, seizing a vehicle specially modified with hidden compartments to conceal the contraband.
According to the General Administration of Customs, vigilant customs officers intercepted the vehicle during a routine inspection. A thorough search uncovered 43 cartons and eight packets of cigarettes concealed inside the vehicle's fuel tank and gearshift panel in compartments specifically designed for smuggling.
Officials said the sophisticated concealment method indicated that the vehicle had been specially prepared for smuggling operations.
Customs authorities have initiated the required legal procedures and are preparing an official seizure report. The suspect, along with the confiscated cigarettes and the seized vehicle, will be referred to the General Department of Criminal Investigation to complete the necessary legal proceedings.
The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by Kuwaiti customs officials to strengthen border security and combat smuggling activities at the country's land border crossings.
