Kuwait Cricket Club organizes T20 exhibition match between KCC Board President XI, British Embassy XI

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: Kuwait Cricket Club is the official governing body for the game of cricket in association with Public Authority of Sports, Olympic Committee of Kuwait and the International Cricket Council (ICC – the world’s governing body for cricket) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC – Operating under ICC).Recently, at Sulaibiya Cricket Ground, a T20 exhibition match was organized by Kuwait Cricket between the Kuwait Cricket Board President XI led by Fahad Bastaki and British Embassy XI led by James Culley in order to strengthen the bilateral ties between the British Community residing in Kuwait and the Kuwait Cricket fraternity.

KCC Board President XI led by Fahad Bastaki batted first and posted 187 runs in 20 overs, with Abdulrahman Al Kendari scoring a brilliant 52, Fahad Bastaki contributing 25, and the evergreen Saud Qamar smashing 42 runs in the lower middle order. For the British Embassy XI, Henry Bowden took 3 wickets and Rayman Rahman claimed 2 wickets.

Chasing the target, the British Embassy XI team fell short by 17 runs, with Stu Cross scoring a magnificent 83 runs and Henry Bowden adding 38 runs to the total. The standout bowlers for KCC were the senior board member Mahmoud Bastaki and Kuwait National Team Manager Naveen Jayan, who both took 2 wickets each.

KCC Board President Mr. Haider Farman made a special appearance during the innings break at the Sulaibiya Cricket Ground and met with both the participating teams and encouraged them all to continue playing such exhibition matches and to build on this tradition. During the pre-match address, the Director
General of KCC, Mr. Sajid Ashraf, expressed KCC’s interest in converting this one off game every year into a best of 5 series throughout the year and also expressed interest in organizing similar matches with other embassies making it into a triangular and or a quadrangular series. This indicates KCC’s commitment to fostering friendly relations and promoting sports diplomacy through cricket with all the leading communities residing in the State of Kuwait.
