Traffic sweep nets reckless motorists in Kuwait

214 violations issued, 32 vehicles impounded, juveniles referred to prosecution

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: The Ministry of Interior announced that the General Traffic Department, represented by the Traffic Investigations Unit of Security Control Department, conducted field campaigns that resulted in the issuance of 214 various traffic citations, and impoundment of 21 vehicles and 11 motorcycles. In an official statement, the ministry revealed that ten individuals were placed in precautionary detention, 12 juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution, and one vehicle wanted for judicial detention was seized. The ministry explained that these campaigns are part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, deter reckless behavior that endangers lives and property, and track down violators and reckless drivers. It will not tolerate any leniency in taking legal action against violators. It emphasized the importance of public cooperation in reporting traffic violations or reckless behavior through the hotline No. 112 of the ministry’s Operations Room, the WhatsApp No. 99324092 of the General Traffic Department or the “Tawasul” platform, adding that such cooperation will help enhance traffic safety and reduce negative incidents. According to security sources, the recent arrests targeted reckless drivers, individuals riding quad bikes on public roads, and juveniles driving without licenses in several areas, all of whom have faced legal action. They indicated that the Security Monitoring Department at the General Traffic Department is actively monitoring videos circulating on social media, including those showing red-light violations or other serious traffic offenses, adding that legal measures will be taken after verifying the authenticity and timing of the footage
