KUWAIT CITY, June 15: The Court of Cassation sentenced Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled to three years in prison in two “expenses” cases, ordering the penalties to be combined so that the enforceable sentence becomes three years with hard labor and fine of KD 3,000, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The court had previously reserved judgment on the appeal submitted by Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled against a ruling issued by the Ministers' Court, which required him to repay amounts he spent from the budgets of the Ministries of Interior and Defense.

The Ministers Court had earlier convicted Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled and sentenced him to 14 years in prison - seven years in each case - while also ordering him to repay KD 10 million and imposing an additional fine of around KD 20 million. The charges were related to alleged embezzlement of funds from the budgets of the Ministries of Defense and Interior and money laundering. With its latest ruling, the Court of Cassation has closed the case by sentencing Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled to three years in prison in each case
