KUWAIT CITY, May 20: A Kuwaiti criminal court has sentenced two Egyptian nationals to three years in prison after convicting them of causing a deadly fire at the Central Prison that resulted in the deaths of three security personnel while on duty.
The Criminal Court of Kuwait, headed by Counselor Ahmed Al-Sadi with Ibrahim Al-Farsi serving as secretary, found the defendants — a workers’ supervisor and a cleaning worker — guilty of involuntary manslaughter through negligence.
The court ruled that the two men failed to comply with safety and security requirements and were responsible for triggering the prison fire by operating electrical equipment in an area containing flammable materials.
According to the ruling, the fire led to the deaths of duty martyrs Saud Al-Khamsan, Muhammad Al-Hajri and Khaled Al-Sharaf while they were carrying out their official duties.
The court set bail at KD200 to suspend the execution of the sentence pending further legal procedures.
