KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a security officer from the Ministry of Interior’s Enforcement Investigations Department of charges of using excessive force against the mother of two men wanted for the execution of a court order.
The incident took place during a raid on their home in Jahra Governorate. The prosecution had accused the officer of abusing his authority as a police officer by assaulting the woman and using excessive force, which caused injuries that were confirmed in a medical report.
According to the case file, while a team of police personnel from the Enforcement Investigations Department was heading to the residence of the two men to execute an outstanding arrest warrant, their father objected to the presence of the officers. He began shouting and verbally abusing one of the officers in front of the accompanying force. The situation escalated, and he assaulted the officer, resulting in injuries. He was subsequently subdued and taken to the police station.
Meanwhile, the mother of the two men reported being assaulted by the officer while he was performing his duties. During the trial, Lawyer Mohammad Al- Sayegh, representing the security officer, asserted his client’s denial of the charges. He explained that the officer had identified himself to the victim as a security officer from the Criminal Investigation Department and that he was there to execute a court order. She had allowed the officers into the house to arrest the wanted individuals. Lawyer Al-Sayegh argued that the victim’s statements were unsubstantiated and lacked conclusive evidence to prove the assault, and he requested his client’s acquittal. The court accepted the request and acquitted the security officer of all charges.
