Kuwait court jails Saudi national and daughter for 7 years in 30-year citizenship forgery case

KUWAIT CITY, May 21: A criminal court has sentenced a Saudi national and his daughter to seven years in prison with hard labor after convicting them in a major Kuwaiti citizenship forgery case that remained undetected for nearly 30 years. The court found the pair guilty of impersonating a deceased Kuwaiti citizen and forging official documents to illegally obtain Kuwaiti nationality and access state benefits reserved for citizens.

In its ruling, the court also ordered the defendants to pay a fine of KD 1.5 million after investigations revealed they had unlawfully received salaries, pensions, government housing, and other state benefits between 1995 and 2025 using forged citizenship status. Authorities said the accused exploited the personal details of a deceased Kuwaiti citizen and falsely registered the girl as his daughter, allowing them to secure official identification documents and maintain the fraudulent identity for years before the scheme was uncovered.

The case is part of Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to combat citizenship fraud and review suspicious nationality files, particularly those involving forged lineage and fabricated identities. Investigators were able to trace inconsistencies in official records, eventually exposing the long-running deception and referring the suspects to court, where they were convicted on charges related to forgery, impersonation, and illegal acquisition of state benefits.
