KUWAIT CITY, Jul 28: The Criminal Court has issued verdicts in the bribery case involving officials of a cooperative society and representatives of vegetable and fruit companies, sentencing several defendants to prison terms.
The court, headed by Counselor Muhammad Al-Sani’, sentenced the president of the cooperative society, the treasurer, a board member and an Egyptian defendant to five years in prison. Two Lebanese defendants were each sentenced to three years, along with fines of KD 10,000.
The case involved allegations of receiving a 10 percent commission from vegetable and fruit sales in exchange for facilitating business transactions.
The court acquitted the defendants of charges related to money laundering involving KD 314,000, while other defendants in the case were also cleared of charges.
The verdict follows an investigation by the Investigations Department, which led to the arrest of those involved and their referral to the judicial authorities.
