KUWAIT CITY, June 27: The Misdemeanor Appeals Court upheld the ruling of a lower court that acquitted a defendant of possessing alcoholic beverages with the intent to sell them, using a vehicle rented under his elderly mother’s name to sell alcohol to his customers, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Attorney Youssef Al-Mohammad from the office of Attorney Inam Haidar represented the defendant. The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with possessing 27 bottles of various types of liquor bottles for sale, as per the arrest and investigation reports. Al-Mohammad argued that the evidence was insufficient, emphasizing that the case file had no record of any sale, distribution or dealings with customers. He asserted that no money, records or correspondence were found in the possession of his client to prove he was selling alcohol. The defense also relied on the testimony of the defendant’s mother, who rented the vehicle and stated that she did not see prohibited substances inside it at the time of the incident.
