Kuwait Court Acquits Man in Consensual Sex and Pregnancy Case, Jails Woman for Seven Years

KUWAIT CITY, May 6: The Criminal Court has acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen of charges related to allegedly having consensual sexual relations with a 20-year-old woman and causing her pregnancy, after finding insufficient evidence to convict him.

The court also sentenced the woman to seven years in prison on the charges brought against her in the same case.

During the trial, attorney Jassim Al-Tuwaitan, who represented the accused Kuwaiti citizen, argued that the elements of the alleged offence were not established. He told the court that there was no case of the accused being caught in the act and that the case file lacked credible evidence proving his client’s guilt.

Al-Tuwaitan further argued that the woman’s account was implausible and claimed that the accusation against his client was malicious and fabricated. He maintained that the entire incident, as presented by the complainant, was untrue.

The defense lawyer stressed that his client had consistently denied the allegation from the beginning of the investigation and requested the court to acquit him of the charge.

After reviewing the case documents, hearing the arguments, and examining the evidence presented, the Criminal Court ruled in favor of the accused citizen and acquitted him. The woman, however, was convicted on the charges attributed to her and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.
