Kuwait Cops Bust Impersonation Gang Behind Luxury Auto Parts Theft

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 22: The Criminal Investigation Department in Taima has closed multiple cases of theft and impersonation of public officials from MOCI following the arrest of three suspects who allegedly carried out a series of coordinated crimes to fund their drug addiction.

According to security sources, the suspects were linked to several complaints filed at Taima police station, including a notable incident at the Amghara scrap yard, where expatriate workers reported being approached by three men wearing traditional clothing. The individuals reportedly posed as inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce, instructing workers to step aside for an inspection under the pretext of verifying compliance and ensuring no stolen vehicle parts were being handled.

After the impersonators left, the workers discovered that valuable spare parts from luxury vehicles had been stolen from the site.

A specialized task force was formed to investigate the wave of thefts, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspects. Authorities said victims later identified the accused in police lineups, helping confirm their involvement in the crimes.

Investigations revealed that two of the suspects previously held senior professional positions, while the third was a former employee of a government ministry. All three confessed during interrogation, admitting that long-term drug addiction had driven them to commit the offenses.

The suspects reportedly expressed remorse during questioning, acknowledging that their dependency had led them into criminal activity.

Security sources confirmed that all legal procedures were followed, with arrest warrants issued by the Public Prosecution based on detailed investigative reports. Authorities are now continuing efforts to track down individuals believed to have purchased the stolen goods from the group.
