CAIRO, June 22(KUNA): Kuwait’s athletics team delivered a strong performance at the Arab Athletics Championships for Under-16 and Under-23 categories, held in Egypt at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, featuring 14 Arab nations. The Kuwaiti tally rose to six medals after adding four silver and one bronze medal.
According to Farouq Al-Shaer, member of the Kuwait Athletics Federation board and head of its media committee, Fahad Al-Dhafiri secured silver in the Under-16 long jump with a personal best of 6.40m.
Talal Al-Yaqout added silver in the Under-16 100m hurdles, clocking 13.95 seconds, while Hussein Al-Tamimi claimed silver in the Under-23 shot put with a distance of 16.98m.
In the Under-23 100m hurdles, Jassim Al-Janaei earned silver with a time of 14.08 seconds, and Abdullah Al-Munais took bronze in the same event, finishing in 14.16 seconds.
Earlier in the competition on Saturday, Mohammed Nasser won gold in the pole vault, setting a new personal best of 3.70m.
The championships continue in Ismailia through June 24, featuring the third Arab Under-23 edition and the inaugural Under-16 competition with wide participation from Arab nations.
