DOHA, May 17: Kuwait’s sporting delegation continued its strong medal-winning run at the 4th Gulf Games – Doha 2026, held in the Qatari capital and running until May 22, as the national tally rose to 38 medals (6 gold, 14 silver, and 18 bronze).
On day five of competition, Kuwaiti athlete Aisha Al-Khader secured gold in the women’s triple jump. Haya Al-Tawajer claimed silver in the 3000m steeplechase, while Fajr Mandani added silver in the hammer throw, with teammate Sheikha Al-Saqhan taking bronze in the same event.
In billiards and snooker, Ammar Taqi delivered a gold medal performance in the individual 6-Red Snooker event after defeating Qatar’s Ali Al-Obaidli in the final.
Kuwait also picked up a silver medal in the mixed skeet shooting event through Saud Al-Kandari and Afrah Mohammed.
In padel, Kuwait’s women’s team impressed with a dominant start, beating Bahrain 3-0 and following it up with another 3-0 win over host Qatar, strengthening its bid for the gold medal.
However, the handball team fell 34-19 to Qatar.
Kuwait Olympic Committee board member and Chairwoman of the Women’s Sports Committee, Fatima Hayat, praised the achievements of Kuwaiti female athletes, expressing pride in their performances and continued progress.
Marking Kuwaiti Women’s Day on May 16, she highlighted the occasion as a national milestone that reflects the long-standing contributions of Kuwaiti women across social, economic, and sporting fields, as well as their continued development and success.
