KUWAIT CITY, May 6: As part of ongoing cooperation between Kuwait’s Public Environment Authority and the Scientific Center, a practical training session was held on the dissection of marine organisms for scientific purposes and the extraction of skeletal structures.
The initiative comes within efforts to protect Kuwait’s marine environment and strengthen scientific understanding of marine life and the factors affecting it.
The training included the dissection of a finless porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides), during which the stomach was extracted for laboratory examination. The remaining work will be completed later through the extraction of the skeletal structure for further scientific study.
According to the organizers, the procedure aims to help researchers gain a more accurate understanding of environmental factors that may contribute to such cases, while supporting efforts to reduce the recurrence of similar incidents in Kuwait’s marine environment.
