Kuwait Condemns Iran’s Aggression, Calls for International Action at UN

GENEVA, March 25: The State of Kuwait issued a strong warning on Wednesday against Iran’s ongoing aggressive actions, stressing that global silence is no longer acceptable as the situation threatens regional stability.

Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, delivered the statement during an emergency session of the UN Human Rights Council convened at the request of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Kuwait.

“Iranian violations have reached a level of severity that makes silence unacceptable,” Ambassador Al-Hain said, calling on the international community to take decisive action to end these attacks and preserve regional peace.

He condemned Iran’s targeting of a ministerial meeting in Riyadh last Wednesday, calling it “an assault on the prestige of states” and a flagrant violation of diplomatic immunities and fundamental UN principles. He also highlighted attacks on oil refineries, gas fields, critical infrastructure, and most recently, Kuwait International Airport, describing these as acts of “psychological and physical terrorism” against civilians.

Ambassador Al-Hain warned that these repeated attacks on economic facilities and international waterways amount to “systematic economic aggression,” undermining the right to development and forcing nations to divert resources from education and healthcare to defense. He further noted that threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz violate the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and endanger global food and medicine supplies.

He reiterated Kuwait’s commitment to diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution under the UN Charter but stressed that repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks demonstrate blatant disregard for international law, including Security Council Resolution 2817 and the Geneva Conventions.

The ambassador affirmed Kuwait’s sovereign right, along with neighboring states, to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter. He also urged support for a GCC draft resolution addressing the latest Iranian attacks, calling it the minimum legitimate demand of the region. (KUNA)
