Kuwait Condemns Iranian Missile and Drone Attacks, Reserves Right to Self-Defense

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait has strongly condemned what it described as criminal Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Kuwaiti territory, calling them a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the country's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

In a statement, the ministry said the attacks posed a direct threat to civilians and vital facilities, and denounced them as an unacceptable act of aggression against Kuwait.

The ministry noted that the attacks occurred at a time when several brotherly and friendly nations are engaged in efforts to reduce regional tensions and prevent further escalation. It warned that such actions undermine diplomatic initiatives aimed at preserving regional security and stability.

Kuwait called on Iran to immediately and unconditionally halt the attacks, holding Tehran fully responsible for their consequences. The ministry said the strikes constituted a serious violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

The statement further emphasized that Kuwait reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security, territory, and vital infrastructure against any aggression or threat.

Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, the ministry affirmed Kuwait's inherent right to self-defense in accordance with international law.

The condemnation comes amid heightened regional tensions following reported missile and drone incidents involving several countries across the Gulf region.
