KUWAIT CITY, Jul 7: Kuwait has strongly condemned what it described as Iranian aggression targeting a Qatari oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, calling the attack a blatant violation of international law and a serious threat to global maritime security and energy supplies.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack on the Qatari tanker as it transited near the strategic waterway.
"The State of Kuwait condemns and strongly denounces the Iranian aggression that targeted one of the Qatari tankers while it was passing near the Strait of Hormuz, in a flagrant violation of international law and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies."
Kuwait reaffirmed its full solidarity with Qatar, stressing its support for all measures taken by Doha to safeguard its national security and protect its capabilities.
The ministry also reiterated Kuwait's rejection of any actions that could undermine regional peace and stability.
"The State of Kuwait affirms its full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar and its support for all measures it takes to protect its security and capabilities."
Calling for restraint, the ministry urged an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and emphasized the importance of respecting international law to ensure freedom of navigation and the safe passage of vessels through international waterways.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf following attacks on several commercial tankers near the Strait of Hormuz, raising international concerns over the security of one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.
