Kuwait condemns drone attack on UAE Barakah nuclear plant site

KUWAIT CITY, May 17: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait has issued a strong statement condemning the drone attack that targeted an electrical generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi.

In its statement issued on Sunday, 17 May 2026, the ministry described the attack as a “heinous act” and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates, warning that such incidents pose a serious threat to regional security and stability.

Kuwait stressed that targeting peaceful nuclear facilities constitutes a clear breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter, due to the potential risks to civilian populations, the environment, and broader regional and international security.

The ministry further emphasized that attacks on vital civilian infrastructure are unacceptable under all legal and moral standards, reaffirming that such actions cannot be justified in any context.

Reiterating its position, Kuwait expressed full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and voiced support for all measures Abu Dhabi may take to protect its security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
