Kuwait concludes the Arab U-18 Athletics Championship with seven medals

CAIRO, Sept 10 (KUNA): The Kuwaiti national athletics team wrapped up its participation in the 12th Arab U-18 Athletics Championship in Cairo on Wednesday with an impressive haul of seven medals — three gold, three silver and one bronze.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Kuwait Athletics Federation junior team manager Dr. Nasser Al-Jarallah praised the athletes for their strong performances, noting that several competitors also set new personal bests during the four-day championship.

Abdulrahman Al-Azmi led Kuwait’s medal charge, winning gold in both the triple jump and long jump, while Yasmine Waleed claimed gold in the high jump.

The three silver medals went to Abdulkarim Al-Hassan in the hammer throw, Abbas Al-Nasser in the pole vault, and Fahd Al-Dhafiri in the long jump. Al-Dhafiri was the youngest competitor at the tournament.

Haider Al-Qattan completed Kuwait’s medal tally with bronze in the 100-meter sprint.

Al-Jarallah said the federation’s national teams committee, headed by Falah Al-Ajmi, has developed a strategic plan to nurture the promising young athletes and make them the core of the senior national team within three to four years.

The plan includes specialized training camps and the appointment of elite coaches to support the athletes’ development.

The four-day championship featured 276 male and female athletes from 15 Arab countries, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Libya, Djibouti, and host Egypt.
