KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: Kuwait is steadily advancing in implementing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, affirmed Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, emphasizing the country’s firm commitment to enhancing women’s role in peacebuilding, protection, and decision-making.
She explained that the workshop, held in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and attended by representatives of national bodies, experts, and specialists from international organizations, aims to design and prepare a National Action Plan for implementing Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
“This workshop comes in a year of particular significance,” she said, “marking the 25th anniversary of Resolution 1325 and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, both of which represented pivotal milestones in advancing women’s empowerment nationally and internationally.”
Sheikha Jawaher noted that recent years have witnessed remarkable progress for Kuwaiti women, who have joined the military and police forces, assumed leadership roles in the diplomatic corps, and made valuable contributions to the economy, science, technology, and engineering. These developments, she said, reflect Kuwait’s commitment to equal opportunities and gender equality, in line with Kuwait Vision 2035, which places women’s empowerment as a key pillar of sustainable development.
She commended the ongoing technical cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ESCWA in supporting the National Committee’s work and developing the proposed National Action Plan, underscoring the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening partnerships with UN organizations and national entities to shape policies that respond effectively to the needs of women and society.
Sheikha Jawaher added that the workshop represents a crucial step toward establishing a comprehensive national action plan that embodies Kuwait’s unique experience and commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.
“Empowering women in Kuwait,” she stressed, “is an investment in the nation’s future and in the progress of society as a whole.”
