BEIJING, Oct 25: Kuwait is firmly committed to accelerating its transition to clean energy and enhancing international cooperation in sustainable energy, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Jassem Al-Najem, affirmed on Friday.
Delivering a speech at the International Forum on Energy Transition in Suzhou, organized by China’s National Energy Administration, Al-Najem underscored Kuwait’s determination to achieve a strategic balance between maintaining the security and stability of energy supplies and actively participating in the global clean energy cooperation system.
He noted that Kuwait Vision 2035 serves as the national framework for economic and energy transformation, aiming to diversify income sources and expand investment in renewable energy sectors, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen.
Al-Najem emphasized Kuwait’s strong support for international cooperation initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, which he stated provide a constructive framework for developing new partnerships in the areas of clean energy and innovation.
Highlighting domestic progress, the ambassador cited the Shagaya Renewable Energy Complex in southwest Kuwait as a pioneering national project in clean technology and energy storage, reflecting the country’s firm commitment to clean energy projects and low-carbon, green development.
“The energy transition is a shared responsibility that requires collective action and sincere cooperation,” Al-Najem said, expressing Kuwait’s readiness to deepen its partnerships with the People’s Republic of China and all friendly nations to build a more sustainable, secure, and prosperous future.
The International Forum on Energy Transition, co-organized by the National Energy Administration of China and the Government of Jiangsu Province in cooperation with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), gathers participants from more than 50 countries and international organizations, including senior officials, specialists, and ambassadors accredited to China, for two days of discussions on advancing global energy transition efforts.
